First Look Fishergate Postern / Tower 39

As part of our development work building a phone app for the York Walls Festival, this is the first look at the 3D models in development. As with the other medeival structures, certain changes have to made to make the models suitable for a ‘First Person’ 3D game. Specifically, in a game the player cannot crouch or adjust their body as we do in real life, so it’s necessary to make the ceilings a bit taller, as well as making openings a bit wider to allow for a better view. Other than that it is a authentic recreation of the walls, rebuilt in stone from around 1345.

Old Baille 2019 mockup

A quick video flythrough of the reconstruction of Old Baille – unlike Clifford’s Tower over the river, this castle was never rebuilt in stone , so always had wooden walls, towers and keep. It was built as a backup to the main castle following the revolt by the citizens of York in 1068. It was a classic Motte & Bailey contstruction, and houses on Falkland Street still suffer from subsidence caused by the moated ditch we’ve rebuilt here. We’re particularly pleased with how the water looks!

Tavern Interior Walkabout Video

An early look inside a generic tavern – we’re building a range of cosy taverns, inns and houses for the player to explore, unlike here it will be in first person, but a similar theme will be shown including being able to buy and sell from the inn keeper, talk to some of the people (some may have work or a quest for the player to complete) and maybe also some hidden secrets to discover. Oh and obviously all bow and arrows to be left at the door in future please. . its health and safety gone mad!
